Pehel Organized a State Level Advocacy Forum under “TBDM Linkage Multimedia Campaign in 3 States of India”

 As part of the “TBDM Linkage Multimedia Campaign in 3 States of India” funded by World Diabetes Foundation and in partnership with Dainik Jagran, The International Union for TB and Lung Diseases (The Union) and the State Health Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh, Pehel organized a State Level Advocacy forum at Lucknow. The objectives of the advocacy forum were to sensitize the stakeholders on the link between TB and DM as well as the provision of capacity building on DM detection and management of DM in TB patients for health care personnel and vice versa, and to advocate policy makers to adopt and implement collaborative framework for care and control of Tuberculosis and Diabetes.
 
The State Advocacy Forum was attended by 80 participants comprising of different stakeholders including policy makers, state administration, state health administration, government health professionals, private health professionals, and media personnel. The most noted dignitaries included, among others, Sri Nitin Agarwal- Honorable Minister, State Medical Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of UP, Sri Arvind Kumar– Principal Secretary, Medical Health & Family Welfare Department,  Govt of UP, Prof Ravikant- Vice Chancellor KGMU, Lucknow, Sri Amit Kumar Ghosh, MD, NHM, UP, Dr. Alok Ranjan STO, UP, Sri S.M. Sharma, Chairman Pehel, Sri Anand Madhab, CEO, Pehel.
 
The State Advocacy Forum was successful in raising the profile of the TB and DM linkage issue and achieved consensus between different stakeholders that it is a critical issue. The need to ensure implementation of the collaborative framework at the State level was also well accepted which emphasizes on screening of Tuberculosis patients for Diabetes  and vice cersa. Moreover, commitments from Principal Secretary-Health, medical institutuions such as KGMU and other organizations in integrating TBDM inter-linkages in their ongoing work were also received.
